Since this is a Mediterranean site we can talk only about one specie called Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda), but this is only one of the many similar species of this genera which lives across the world and have similar behavior. So if, by any chance, your trip leads you to any part of the world and you see a fish that looks like bonito you can call it bonito even thou it’s different specie of fish that you would see in Mediterranean and Atlantic ocean. It’s one of the top quality oily fishes which can be made in every type of meal.

One of the fishes that many people consider to be endangered by sportfishing methods is Corvina. This fish was numerous and still is on places with lack of human activity, while on other places they can still be found on labyrinth rock shores and on some deeper locations. It's an irony that because of the fact that corvina is no longer a easily found fish, the catch of a larger specimen brings much more joy to our life. It’s a delicious and demanded specie still not cultured but progress in that field is eminent. |

We can talk for days about Gilthead seabream (sparus aurata) or as we on medfish popularly call it Orata. This specie has a very distinctive way of behaving and it’s always a new experience when you encounter new fish. She has no look-alike fishes in Mediterranean Sea and even none of her genera in whole world. It lives only in Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic. It is also the most cultivated specie in agriculture and because of it has spread outside its natural borders. To us spearfishers it is very beautiful and tasty fish, so we apreciate it as a trophy. |

For many people common dentex (Dentex dentex) is the most valuable specie of fish that can be caught in Mediterranean Sea. Although its delicious, dentex is not considered to be the tastiest but still as a phenomena he gets more honor that all other, even tastiest fishes. The name dentex comes from his large predatory teeths.

During the winter lots of Mediterranean spearos enjoy shallow water, the main reason is that like no other season big seabass can appear behind every corner and when you combine that with very tasty and delightful meat you get a very popular fish. Bass is closely related to groupers but has its own family moronidae. Two species of bass are living in Mediterranean waters. Beside this one we all know, the other is spotted seabass (Dicetrarchus punctatus) which is not as abundant as the common sea bass. Main difference is spots, lighter color, and shaper head. Spotted bass can barely reach 4 kg and so he is significantly smaller specie than European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax). |
