I had a brief contact with the Chairman of CMAS in september about the subject. Write him an mail - he is really fast and openhearted in his responses.
This quoted answer dates from september and is NOT official information!
Dear Mr Morten For your information, the next Euro African Championship, is not yet defined, however we are dealing with the Algerian Federation to run the Championship in Algeria. If so, the competition would be run in Algeria by the middle of October 2009. For any further information's, please do not hesitated to contact me B. Regards Antonio Cruz President of CMAS Spear Fishing Commission

Hi Morten,
Thank you for the feedback. I had been told that it would be on september or October - your feedback is more detailed - Thanks!
It could be quite a challenging competition for the SA team as it arrives at the end of our winter (most of our diving will be fairly shallow for about 3 months prior to the comp). I expect there to be quite a lot of deep diving in the med to get decent fish.
regards

Well, since its a CMAS competition my guess is that you hae to memeber of the your national CMAS. Then you have to qualify (or at least you hae to if you are living in Denmark ) We qualify from national competitions. If you dont have national competitions my guess is that it might could be possible to go - but my other guess is that everything has to go through the National CMAS. So contact you national CMAS or CMAS international (all kinds of mail adress on their website). Good luck, Morten

The same applies to us from the other side of the world.
Your contry needs to have a paid up union (paid up to CMAS). From this union, the names of the competitors needs to be forwarded to CMAS (these competitors would then also need to be paid up CMAS members). There are deadlines for submitting names, paying the fees needed etc. This you union would need to address as you cannot compete in this competition as an individual.
In SA our team is selected from a combination of the results obtained in all competitions, nationals and a special invitation only qualification competition.
I hope this helps a little
Regards

HI all,
I have just seen on the CMAS web site that the Euro-African Competition will be held from the 14th to the 18th October. At least we have a date now!!!!
Now the big question, has anyone dived this area before? I had a look at Google Earth - looks like some rocky shores to the East and West. What is October like in the med - if it is like Greece then I am sure we may be diving where those fish with big eyes live (deep).
Ciao

Hi Daniel,
Have you dived Algeria before?
I heard you had a good day at the Lussino comp in December. Well done!

Hi Daniel,
It would be nice to be able to shoot some Med species - Dentex in particular. We do not get them is South Africa! The closest we have is a species called a soldier (used to be called Dentex nufar) - similar but not as beautiful as a dentex. Most of the other species we also get in SA - leccia, seriola, sargo, zebra (sargo burgo), merou, salpa, etc.
Hope to see you in Algeria!
